Abstract:

Record of a journey with a wagon train from Pleasant Gap, Bates Co., Missouri to Santa Rosa, Calif. (Apr. 21 - Oct. 1, 1853) by way of Blue and Platte Rivers, South Pass, Bear Valley, Raft River, Goose Creek, south side of the Humboldt River, Ragtown [Nevada], Hope Valley, Volcano City, Grass Valley, Sacramento, Fremont, Napa and Sonoma Valleys.
Includes photocopies of a notebook, ca. 1887-1916, containing historical and genealogical information on the Hagans family, some of whom travelled with the Zilhart wagon train. Also includes explanatory letters, 1994, by Jeanne Thurlow Miller and supplementary biographical material collected by her.

The original diary is no longer extant. The handwritten transcript was made by Miss Helen Hoag, with the help of her mother, who at the age of thirteen had been part of the wagon train.
